Thanksgiving
Surprise surprise: they don’t celebrate it in the UK. Go figure. On the menu tonight might be considered an anathema: chicken curry. It’s my version of Thanksgiving this year.
In other news I’ll be back in NYC in 2 weeks. Psyched for: pizza, Momafuku, mexican food, pizza, sandwiches, delis in general, pizza, perogies, buddies, college basketball, and bbq.

Vinyl sales grew 15 percent in 2007 and 89 percent in ‘08
– HUH? This bump has prompted Best Buy to start carrying vinyl in about 100 stores across the country. Right, so since people don’t buy CD’s anymore they are instead buying vinyl? I don’t even know any DJ’s that still spin records in the days of Serato. (Link) (via deleteyourself)

My Big Life Decision
Sooo…I haven’t written here in a while because I’ve tried keeping, in general, a lid on what I’ve been doing. As some may know I parted ways with BustedTees/CV several months ago. That was a sad time but in the depths of my depressive state I made a decision that it was time to go back to what I really loved: science.
I also decided I wasn’t going to return to the...
GO BU!
So yeah, my alma mater, BU, won the NCAA men’s hockey title tonight. BU is not a sport’s school by any means, except for hockey and I enjoyed going to a few BU/BC hockey games back in the day. This is nice to see at least. Go Terriers!

Slamdance Winner
Slamdance is a film festival that goes on out in Park City, UT concurrently with its better known cousin Sundance. Slamdance is for new filmmakers with budgets under $1 million. As Variety has just announced:
Grand Jury Award For Best Animated Short Winner: Undone, directed by Hayley Morris

I bowled a 190 last night

More than double Dave Trawin’s score, nbd. He was too ashamed to show up to work toda
It’s true. I was there. Trawin’s bowling style: he gingerly walks up to the line and weakly coaxes the ball down the lane so that pins fall over in the most gentle of ways.
Vince Offer
Don’t know that name? I’m sure you know the face. As I was sat on my couch for most of the weekend recuperating from a cold I saw a new informercial featuring the guy from the stupid Shamwow infomercials. I wondered, “who is this guy and where did he come from?”. His name is Vince Offer and he has a slightly colorful background.
Prior to his Shamwow fame he was most...

Take the test and reblog your score. NO GOOGLING!
I answered 26 out of 33 correctly — 78.79 % (The average score for all 2,508 Americans taking the following test was 49%; college educators scored 55%.)
I got a 60.61%.
I got 28/33 (84.85%).

A hand drawn animation I made for the company I work at, Curious Pictures.
This is my sister’s blog. She’s an animator at Curious Pictures. This is a short little animation/christmas card she made for the company and their clients. On top of it my brother wrote the music for it. Pretty rad. Check it out!

New Physics @ CDF?!?!
This has the potential to be big. To cut to what the abstract says is that they are essentially seeing muon production WELL outside the beam pipe(if you read the paper this is via the fact that there’s a long tail on the distribution of muon impact parameters-out to several centimeters.) In most proton-antiproton interactions you get muon production near the vertex not several centimeters...

Fest 7 Lineup
Just got the info for where we’re playing at The Fest in Gainesville on Nov 1. Potentially this will probably be the most amount of people I’ve ever played in front of. Alot of popular bands on the show-unfortunately we’re the very first band. Can’t have it all. But we get to play with our buds Broadway Calls, The Menzingers, and Polar Bear Club so that’s pretty...

Nobel Prize in Physics 2008-Want To Understand...
Congratulations to Yoichiro Nambu (1/2 prize) , Makoto Kobayashi , and Toshihide Maskawa. Of course Nambu wins the prize due to his work on spontaneous symmetry breaking done back in 1960. It’s a beautiful piece of work which has permeated many fields of physics from the Standard Model to condensed matter systems (think of ferromagnets above/below Curie temperature). An illustrative idea...

Barack HUSSEIN Obama is the Anti-Christ...For...
That’s the implication going around in this letter to evangelicals by some Christian Warrior named Jim Bramlett. As he says, “God is not pleased”. I’m sure he has a direct line to the mind of God. That may be true, though, since he’s the same fellow who claims to have recorded angels singing.
Via Cosmic Variance.
PS-I love how opponents always included the...
